Why finding a spar is harder than it should be

Sparring only works when the match is right. Too big a weight gap, too wide a gulf in experience, and it stops being training for either boxer — it's a bad night for the novice and a wasted one for the more experienced fighter. That matching has always happened through coaches ringing round the clubs they happen to know, which works until you move city, change club, or train somewhere nobody knows you.

Bout-A-Round makes the same introductions without the phone tree. Your card carries the things that actually decide whether a spar is sensible — weight class, stance, bout record, disciplines, and whether you're currently open to being matched — so a coach looking for an opponent for their fighter can see at a glance whether you're one.

How matching works

Search is filtered by discipline, weight class and experience, then narrowed by location: your county, your town, the clubs you could realistically get to on a Tuesday night. When you find someone suitable you send a request; they accept or decline; from there the conversation moves into the app and the terms — rounds, weight, gloves, headguards, date — get agreed in writing before anyone laces up.

Coaches and club officials keep their oversight. Club membership is confirmed by the club, not self-declared, and boxers under 18 are handled through their coach and guardian rather than being listed publicly at all.
